For the foot itself, this is not your best instrument
You call this gait analysis already, and you mean something more precise by it. Here is where the two overlap and where they do not: stated now rather than in month two.
Why the foot is the weak point
The model places twenty-six points on the body, heel and toe among them. Those points sit on the shoe. With a thick midsole or a high heel counter the measured heel point sits a consistent distance from the actual calcaneus, and that shifts the foot strike angle by degrees. For an absolute statement about foot position that is too much.
Worse, the movement your profession cares about most, pronation, is a rotation, and one camera does not see rotation. What the frontal plane gives you is a projection in which a rotated foot and an everted foot look alike.
What does remain usable at the foot: the difference between left and right, and the difference between two clips of the same person in the same footwear. That error acts the same way both times and cancels.
What there is to gain instead
The chain above the foot is exactly what a single camera is good at, and it is where an orthosis does its work or fails to.
- Contralateral pelvic drop, left and right separately, measured at midstance
- Peak hip adduction through stance
- Knee valgus in the frontal plane (frontal plane projection angle)
- Foot crossing the midline, as a percentage of stature
- Contact time left against right, and peak stance knee flexion left against right
Before and after: the measurement that matters
- 1
Record without the device
In the footwear the patient actually runs in. Twenty seconds, from behind for the frontal plane and from the side for the rest.
- 2
Record again with it
Same shoes, same speed, same camera position. Anything you change besides the orthosis changes the measurement with it.
- 3
Compare
The app puts the two side by side and says which differences exceed the spread between stride cycles. Four degrees less pelvic drop is something; four degrees inside a spread of five is nothing.
- 4
Measure again at six weeks
Immediately after fitting you measure the mechanical effect. What survives accommodation is a different question, answerable with the same clip.
Frequently asked
- Does this replace pressure measurement?
- No, and it does not try. A pressure plate measures forces under the foot; this measures joint positions from images. Different questions, and the pair is stronger than either alone.
- Can I record barefoot?
- You can, and the heel point is then more trustworthy with no shoe in between. But you are no longer measuring the situation the orthosis works in. For a before-and-after comparison, keeping footwear constant matters more than removing it.
- How reliable is the strike pattern classification?
- Screening grade. The thresholds between rearfoot, midfoot and forefoot come from the literature and were established barefoot or in thin soles. A thick midsole shifts the whole distribution. The report prints the angle alongside, so you can see how close someone sits to a boundary.
- Is this a medical device?
- No. It measures and it assesses the quality of that measurement; it does not link values to a condition and does not propose treatment. The reasoning behind that classification is public.
Measure one patient before and after
The first analysis is free. That is exactly enough to see whether the difference you expect actually shows up.

- Running gait analysis for physiotherapists
Measure the running pattern from a slow-motion clip, put it in the notes, and at review see whether anything actually changed. From € 20 an analysis.
- Running gait analysis in sport and exercise medicine
What 2D video can and cannot measure, with the uncertainty stated. For anyone deciding whether a gait measurement will carry what gets built on it.
- Running gait analysis for coaches
Cadence, overstride and contact time as numbers, so that across a season you can show what changed instead of asserting it. From € 20 an analysis.
- For running stores: not the gait analysis you already do
This does not tell you which shoe fits. It does show what measurably changes in the running pattern between two shoes: which is a service you can sell on its own.
- Pricing for running gait analysis
Unlimited for € 129 a month, or from € 20 an analysis on a bundle. Bundles do not expire. First analysis free.
- Evidence: how it measures and what has been tested
Which model sits underneath, how gait events are established, what has and has not been validated, and why this is not a medical device.
- Recording protocol for running gait analysis
Camera position, frame rate, clothing and duration. The recording determines the measurement more than the software does, and this is what has to be right.
- Compared: camera, IMU sensors, a motion lab or the naked eye
What camera-based analysis can and cannot do against IMU sensors, a gait lab and assessment by eye. Including the places where the others win.
- Try it: the first analysis is free
One complete analysis with the report, no watermark and no card details. You need a twenty-second slow-motion clip and nothing else.
- Bike fitting with the camera you already own
Measure your client on the trainer from an ordinary clip. Joint angles per crank revolution, adjustments in millimetres, a report for the file. From € 28 an analysis.
- Overpronation: what it is and what it does not predict
What pronation is, why sorting runners into neutral, over- and underpronating says less than long assumed, and what you can usefully look at instead.
